About the George Hotel
Located at one end of the prestigious George Street the George Hotel Edinburgh has recently undergone extensive refurbishment consolidating its position at the fore of Edinburgh’s hotel scene. The hotel is situated in a grade II listed building which is evident from its historic charm and appearance particularly its ornately detailed façade. The George became a hotel in 1881 having been converted from three other buildings, but its history started more than 100 years before then; it was built in 1775 at the height of the Scottish capital’s new town boom. It was also formerly known as the Intercontinental Hotel before being transformed under a different brand.

George Street is commonly known as the Bond Street of Edinburgh due to its class and array of shopping, eating and sightseeing opportunities. It is a UNESCO world heritage site and proves a popular and vibrant part of the city. Also in the nearby area are the likes of Edinburgh Castle, the International Conference Centre, the Palace of Holyrood house and the Royal Mile. The hotel is fairly easy to reach with the Waverley Train station just a short walk away and the city’s airport seven miles away.

By air: Edinburgh International Airport is seven miles from the Hotel.
By rail: Waverley Train Station is around five minutes’ walk from the Hotel while Haymarket is more like 10 minutes by taxi.
By car: From all directions, head for the A720 Edinburgh bypass and turn off towards Edinburgh City Centre on the A702. Follow the A702 all the way into the city centre and eventually you will meet the junction with Charlotte Square. Turn right as if heading towards Princes Street, but you will be obliged to turn left before you reach Princes Street. The second turning on the right takes you onto George Street, where you will find the distinctive George Edinburgh Hotel.
